Yeshe Tsogyal was a legendary Tibetan Buddhist practitioner and the consort of Indian master Padmasambhava, who is credited with introducing Buddhism to Tibet in the eighth century. She is revered as a dakini (a female spiritual figure) in Tibetan Buddhism and is thought to be a manifestation of the female buddha Samantabhadri.Yeshe Tsogyal was born in the region that is now Bhutan in 757 CE. She was a princess who was married off at the age of sixteen to Tibetan King Trisong Detsen. She later met Padmasambhava, who became both her teacher and consort. They worked together to establish Buddhism in Tibet and to pass on their teachings to their disciples.Yeshe Tsogyal is best known for her spiritual achievements, which include the attainment of rainbow body, a rare feat in which a realized practitioner's physical body dissolves into light at death. She is also well-known for her role in preserving many of Padmasambhava's and other early Tibetan masters' teachings.Yeshe Tsogyal is remembered for her contributions to the development of Tibetan writing, in addition to her spiritual legacy. She is said to have invented a script that allowed for the transliteration of the Tibetan language, allowing the Buddha's teachings to be written down.
