Marici - The Unconquerable Radiance of the Dawn
Marici - འོད་ཟེར་ཅན་མ། - 摩利支天
Emerging with the first golden light of dawn, Marici—known as the "Lady of Brilliant Light Rays"—rises not only as the Messenger of a new day but also as an eternal guardian of invincibility and protection. At first glance, she may appear to be a serene maiden, her beauty bathed in the hues of the morning sun. However, behind her radiant visage stands a battle-hardened goddess, mounted on a celestial chariot drawn by boars, armed with weapons and an unstoppable will.
Worshipped as the protector of travelers, warriors, and the vulnerable, Mārīcī is called upon to dispel fear, avert dangers, and pierce through illusions—her very name serves as a mantra imbued with safeguarding power. Shakyamuni Buddha himself acknowledged her supremacy, declaring that none who knew her name could be bound, deceived, or defeated. Born from the luster of the sacred aśoka tree and transforming into a fierce celestial warrior, she embodies the first light of enlightenment—relentless, radiant, and liberating.

Legend: The Dawning of Marici
In an age when darkness roamed freely across the world before the sun had claimed dominion over the sky, the suffering of mortals echoed in the void. Mara, the great deceiver, along with his legions of fear and illusion, grew bold, casting their shadows across all lands. In response to the cries of the helpless, a radiant light burst forth from the sacred aśoka tree—the first light to pierce the endless night. This light took form, and her name was Mārīcī.
Born of golden brilliance, she appeared not as a whisper but as a roar, riding a chariot drawn by wild boars, her weapons gleaming with the fire of truth. The demons cowered before her, for no blade could touch her, and no trap could ensnare her. As she raced across the sky, she scattered Mara’s shadows with her arrows of light, her needle and thread binding the mouths of liars, and her noose ensnaring the hearts of the cruel. With every sunrise, she renewed her vow to circle the world, protect the innocent, and challenge the wicked.
One day, the Buddha himself stood before the people of Śrāvastī and said, “There is a goddess known as Mārīcī. One who knows her name shall never be conquered.” From that moment, her legend was woven into the morning light. She became the invisible sentinel of the devoted, the light that no darkness could grasp, the goddess who rides ahead of the sun and moon, clearing a path not just through the heavens but also through the illusions of the mind.
To this day, those who rise with the sun and whisper her mantra know her truth: the light of Mārīcī is not just seen—it is lived, feared by darkness, and welcomed by all who seek protection, clarity, and awakening.
