Stupa of Descent from Tushita Heaven

The Stupa of Descent from the God Realm, or Lhaba Chorten, is a sacred monument commemorating a pivotal event in the life of the Buddha and expressing gratitude to his mother who had taken rebirth in the Tushita Heaven.


At the age of 42, the Buddha spent a summer retreat in Tushita Heaven where his mother had been reborn. To repay her kindness, he imparted the teachings of the dharma to her reincarnation. In honor of this significant event, the local inhabitants constructed the Stupa of Descent from the God Realm in Sankasya.
